Many patients come to us after trying rest, painkillers or waiting for symptoms to settle. We are happy to discuss whether chiropractic care is a sensible option for you.

Important: Chiropractic care is not a substitute for emergency medical attention. If you have severe unexplained pain, chest pain, loss of bladder or bowel control, progressive weakness, or symptoms after a serious fall or accident, contact NHS 111, your GP, or emergency services as appropriate.

What to expect

Your first visit, step by step

We aim to make every appointment calm and predictable - especially if you have never seen a chiropractor before.

Book & prepare

Call, email or use the enquiry form. Wear comfortable clothing you can move in. Bring a list of medications and any recent imaging reports if you have them.

History & exam

We discuss your symptoms, lifestyle and goals, then complete relevant orthopaedic and neurological tests. You can stop or ask questions at any time.

Findings & plan

We explain what we think is going on in plain English, whether chiropractic care is suitable, and roughly how many visits may help - without pressure to commit.

Treatment & advice

If treatment is appropriate on the day, it is included in your new-patient fee. You leave with simple home advice and a clear next step.

Patient enjoying gentle outdoor movement after recovery

Many patients notice improvement over a short course of care; others need longer or a different pathway. We will be honest if we think another health professional is better placed to help.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Useful answers for patients - and for our reception team when handling enquiries.

Do I need a GP referral to book?

No. You can book directly with Oakridge Chiropractic. If your symptoms suggest you should see a GP or go to urgent care first, we will tell you.

How long is a typical appointment?

New patients: 45–60 minutes. Follow-up visits: usually 15–25 minutes. Extended reviews: around 30–35 minutes. Please arrive five minutes early for your first visit to complete a short form.

Is treatment painful?

Most people find care comfortable. You may hear a soft “click” during some adjustments - that is gas releasing from the joint, not bones cracking. Mild soreness for 24–48 hours can happen, similar to starting a new exercise. Tell us if anything feels too strong and we will adapt the technique.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on your condition, how long you have had it, and your goals. Many simple mechanical problems improve over 2–6 visits. We reassess regularly and will not recommend ongoing care without a clear reason. Maintenance visits are always optional.

Do you treat children?

We primarily treat adults and older teenagers (typically 14+). For younger children we can advise on whether a paediatric-focused practitioner or GP pathway may be more suitable. Please call reception to discuss.

What should I wear?

Loose, comfortable clothing such as a t-shirt and joggers or leggings. You will not usually need to undress fully; we may ask you to remove a jacket or shoes for examination.

Can I claim on private medical insurance or a cash plan?

Many health cash plans reimburse chiropractic care - check your policy for annual limits. Private medical insurance varies; some policies require pre-authorisation or a GP letter. We provide itemised receipts and our practitioner registration numbers on request.

What is your cancellation policy?

Please give at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be charged at 50% of the booked fee. We understand genuine emergencies - just call us as soon as you can.

How do I book, change or cancel an appointment?

Call 0191 498 0123 during opening hours, email reception@example.com, or send a message via the contact form. For same-day enquiries, telephone is best. Reception can usually offer new-patient slots within 48 hours.

Is there parking and is the clinic accessible?

In this demo, the clinic is described as having free parking outside, ground-floor rooms and step-free access. These are sample details only - not a real premises.
